Shampoo 7th & Willow Street, Philadelphia, PA
215.922.7500
For
a very unusual dancing experience, Shampoo may be just the place to go. Found in Center City, Philadelphia, Shampoo is a
sprawling club offering three separate dance floors catering to three different music
genres. Dance floor #1 offers the techno sound that seems to be the most popular at this
club. It is the largest of the dance floors offering a phenomenal sound system and
exciting light show. With elevated platforms surrounding the floor, dancers of all kinds
can get an aerial view of the room, as well as showcase their latest moves. Dance floor #2
creates the illusion of an indoor room, when in reality it is outdoors in a canopy-covered
courtyard. The décor is somewhat art deco, while the music is mostly Latin. This is the
floor to visit if you are interested in seeing great dancers. The rhythm in this room,
found in both the music and the dancers, is like no tempo found anywhere else in the gay
district of Philadelphia. With a sound system
that lends itself to the courtyard accoustics, you are literally swept away by sound;
here, emphasis is placed on music, not on lighting. The lighting is extremely basic, but
lends itself nicely to the atmosphere. |
