The Copa 624 SE 28th St., Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The Copa is a permanent fixture in Fort Lauderdale. It seems as though this club has been around forever. I wonder if it inspired the song? Anyway, far removed from the downtown area, this club is where the locals hang out. Very few changes have occurred to the club over the years. An outdoor video bar with food service seems to be the latest addition. (We don't recommend the food- but who would really want to eat dinner in a gay bar anyway?) A bitchy drag queen (Elektra) performs out there several nights a week. Its worth watching her sweat in her bob Mackie gowns! The dance floor is the main event and the music serves it well. Playing mostly house music, a few surprises come up every now and then. Many great performers have graced the small stage (at the end of the dance floor) over the years. The lighting is predictable and pre-packaged, but at least they use most of it.
